ABPS celebrated Reconciliation Week with a variety of different activities exploring Aboriginal culture and history. Students engaged in meaningful discussion surrounding the concept of reconciliation and why the 2024 Reconciliation Week motto might be 'Now More Than Ever'. On Wednesday, we were joined by Leanne from Wollombi Aboriginal Cultural Experiences, who took our K-6 students through a traditional Smoking Ceremony and Acknowledgement of Country. Leanne then led a weaving workshop alongside ABPS' Aboriginal students and their families where they were taught traditional weaving techniques using Lomandra and African Raffia.
To wrap up our Reconciliation Week celebrations, students gathered in House Families to create 4 different collaborative artworks, incorporating a variety of Aboriginal art styles. These will be displayed around our school in the coming weeks so keep an eye out!
