Avoca Beach Public School Library

Evie's Corner

Students are enjoying our newly refurbished library made possible by the generous support of our P&C and a community donation from the Avoca Beach Chamber of Commerce.

All classes attend a weekly library session. Students enjoy a read-aloud and are encouraged to borrow during odd weeks, the lesson focus is on information & digital literacy/technologies during even weeks. During library time, students are taught how to navigate the library and search the online catalogue to find suitable books within our collection. Students in years 3-6 are explicitly taught how to find books to support the Literacy Pro program.

The library is open recreationally during 1st half lunch Monday to Thursday. During this time students may borrow, use the library space to meet with friends, or use the computer lab to complete projects or play games.

series books to ignite reading

Series books can be a great way to get your kids hooked on reading, and there's no better time to read than the long, lazy hours of school holidays.

Reluctant readers and children who struggle with comprehension can also find series books easier to enjoy, as once they've finished one they're familiar with the characters, the locations and the style of writing. This makes reading the second book easier.

Here are some of the most popular series books chosen by kids during the Premier's Reading Challenge. The age range is just a guide - let your child choose the books they find most engaging.
