On the 18th of August Avoca Beach public school was privileged to watch a performance called Musica viva. Musica Viva is an event held traditionally by three people who have learnt the skill of Japanese drums, Taiko. Taiko is a Japanese word for drums.
The performers group is named TaikOz, which means Japanese drums in Australia (OZ). They were amazing as they used multiple instruments including Taiko Drums and Wadaiko Drums.
The drummers would use wooden sticks that they would hit their Japanese drums with that would echo inside to result as a loud beat. The kids were asked to close their eyes, try to clear their mind and listen to see if they could see any pictures or feel any emotions. The TaikOz group were able to create large variations of sounds to influence visualisations inside some people's minds. If they tapped fast and soft it may sound like rain, or if they tapped loud and random it could sound like hail which for some, links to a huge storm.
The Taiko drumming performances satisfy people's enjoyment and to uphold the amazing tradition of the Japanese drumming.
