Mitchell, a student in Year 3 came up to the office to share the work that he had done in class. He had written directions which were composed to reveal the position of hidden treasure on 'Pirate Island.'
As Mitchell read through the directions a second time I drew my interpretation of the island according to his positioning statements. To his surprise the picture was very close to the original copy.
"Wow, that's pretty good Mrs Davies. You're a good drawer."
"Mitchell it was your great mathematical language that gave me the information I needed."
"I didn't know I was doing maths!"
