High potential and gifted education
Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.
At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.
Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.
Rich opportunities and activities
Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.
Opening doors to wider experiences
Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.
What is high potential and gifted education?
High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
At Avoca Beach Public School, HPGE lives in everyday practice. Many students have high potential, and we help that potential to grow into something powerful.

- Our teachers engage in professional learning to support the diverse needs of all students, including our high potential and gifted learners
Every student is individual, so opportunities are flexible and diverse.

- Talent is celebrated through school musicals, music ensembles, band, strings group, choir, dance groups, supported by student technology group.
- Leadership grows through SRC, house captains, student parliament, mentoring and peer coaching, mediators and wellbeing is made visible with PBL awards.
- Daily life invites curiosity and belonging, with an open library at lunch and plus interest based groups like chess and gardening club.

Stage 3 debating
Our Stage 3 debating team had an exceptional season in the 2025 Premiers’ Debating Challenge. Representing Avoca Beach Public School with pride and integrity, the team has been a credit to our school community. Their consistent efforts and achievements earned them the title of Zone Champions, a title they should wear with pride. A special thank you to Mrs Jarmaine & Miss Easton for their committment and expertise in leading the group.
Dance enrichment group
Our group lit up the stage at the 2025 State Dance Festival ‘Elevate’ last Tuesday with their stunning performance of Back in Time. After months of rehearsals, these talented students shone under the bright lights of the Seymour Centre, and we couldn’t be prouder of how they represented ABPS. A special thank you to Mrs Jarmaine and Miss Fuller for sharing their expertise and guiding our dancers every step of the way.
Sporting opportunities
At Avoca Beach Public School our students can get active and shine across a wide range of sports, including touch football, league tag, Soccer, basketball, netball, hockey opens, cricket opens, tennis, AFL opens, rugby league opens, Rugby 7s, multi-class events, ten-Pin bowling, and boccia. From teamwork on the field to skill on the court, our students play with passion, pride, and school spirit!
Stage 3 music enrichment group
Our newly created group gave an incredible performance for the last PBL assembly of Term 3. It was wonderful to see their hard work and creativity come to life on stage, and we can’t wait to see what they achieve next. Here’s a glimpse of what they shared with the 500+ students, teachers and families!
Festival of Instrumental Music
Our talented violin group had an unforgettable experience performing at the Sydney Opera House for the Festival of Instrumental Music. Led by conductors Luke Wallace, Sarah Qui, and Marc Stevens, students rehearsed alongside 700 recorder players, the Sydney Percussion Ensemble, and talented soloists. They performed General’s Order, Bushwacker Stomp, and Elvenwood—finishing with a spectacular finale. Thank you to our wonderful teachers, Eva and Ingrid, for helping our students reach this amazing milestone!
STEM enrichment group
Our STEM enrichment group dives into the exciting world of robotics using a variety of robotics equipment including LEGO EV3 and LEGO Spike. Students design, build, and program their own robots to solve real-world challenges, explore coding, and develop creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork skills. It's this hands-on learning that inspires future innovators!
